Over 50 million Americans have no health coverage, millions more are denied medical treatment by their insurance providers, and hundreds of thousands of Americans face financial ruin every year because of an illness or injury. The Democratic Party's plan for health care reform will not provide universal health care! Obamacare does not make health care a right for every American. It would leave for-profit insurance industry power & inefficiency (huge CEO salaries, high overhead and administrative costs) in place and send millions in taxpayer-funded subsidies to for-profit insurance companies. More than 60% of insurance industry contributions went to Democrats in the 2008 election.

I stand with the hundreds of thousands (a New York Times/CBS News poll from this year said as many 59%) of Americans who support a universal, single-payer health care system. "Medicare for All" is a better option than HR 3962, which provides no regulation of premiums, costs more - according to the Congressional Budget Office - than private insurance plans, and enrolls only a miniscule percentage of uncovered Americans in subsidized plans. Please do not support any Senate or combined bill with similar provisions. HR 3962 also introduces new mandates that penalize poor Americans for not being able to afford health care. Americans who have to make the choice between food, shelter and health care will still have to make a choice between food, shelter, and lower-cost health care. They will surely pick food and shelter first, and would now face federal penalties for making this choice. Please do not support any future bills with an individual mandate. The Green Party - the largest political party in the United States that rejects all contributions from corporations and political action committees (PACs) - notes that the Democratic bill amounts to an "insurance industry bailout" that delivers millions of new customers to our largest, most profitable insurance companies. They don't need more profits and we don't need to pay more taxes for no improvement in health care services. I support a single-payer plan like HR 676 - the United States National Health Care plan. I urge you to oppose the current Democratic plan and get behind HR 676 (or a Senate version) and start over with a plan that covers all Americans.
