Dear Senator McCain, In recent weeks, your campaign has launched a massive attack on ACORN, going as far as to claim ACORN is engaged in deliberate voter fraud and “destroying the fabric of America's democracy.” Following your outrageous claims during the final Presidential debate, ACORN has figuratively and literally come under attack by your followers. ACORN staffers have received death threats in Ohio and Rhode Island, and offices have been vandalized in Washington and Massachusetts. Numerous threatening and racist phone calls have been made to ACORN offices across the country. We are calling on your campaign to stop the attack on ACORN! We ask that you tamp down the fringe elements in your party, and publicly reject these outright hateful and racist actions. No charges of voter fraud or even voter registration fraud have been brought against ACORN. And, just two years ago, you stood in solidarity with ACORN and told our members that "they are what makes America special." It's past time that you take accountability for your actions. We are calling on you to do the following: - Tell the truth about ACORN's voter registration drives and admit that faulty registration cards, including those brought forward by ACORN’s own quality control staff, DO NOT result in improper voters or votes. - Ensure that your running mate, Governor Sarah Palin, immediately cease from spreading lies about ACORN during her public appearances. - Publicly let supporters know that violence against ACORN or any other group is wrong and will not be tolerated. We hope we can agree on one thing—that every qualified American has the right to vote.
