The Real Deal In Health Care Reform

Federal health care reform fell short this year when the for-profit insurance lobby killed the public option. We can do better in California.

Senate Bill 810 (Leno) establishes a single payer health insurance – a Medicare for all system – that covers every Californian at lower cost than the current profit driven, private insurance company model.

SB 810 eliminates the layers of insurance industry waste that drain as much as 30 cents of every insurance premium dollar before any health care is delivered.

By redirecting those dollars to care providers, SB 810 will dramatically reduce premiums for businesses and families, cover all medically necessary health care, eliminate the risk of medical bankruptcy, and contain health care spending over the long term.  SB 810 will save California businesses and state and local government billions of dollars in employee health care costs. And savings in the system fully fund insurance coverage for retirees.

SB 810 assures patient control of the choice of doctor and hospital. Reducing health insurance cost will spur small business creation and give California businesses an advantage over their competitors.

We need SB 810 because we can no longer afford a private health insurance bureaucracy designed to minimize the payment of claims instead of maximizing the health of the people.
