Senate Passes Matthew Shepard Act
The Senate passed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act and President Obama will sign the law on Wednesday. This is a great victory for civil rights advocates like ADA and the late Sen. Kennedy who spearheaded this pioneering legislation. It is the first time in our nation's history where protections including LGBT people have passed the Congress and is a testament to our shared advocacy in advancing civil rights.
More on LGBT Equality. ADA members are campaigning on the ground to protect Maine's marriage equality law and Washington State's domestic partnership law. We have joined with other civil rights advocates in opposing the right-wing efforts to divide us by using bigotry and intolerance.
