Right now New York is at the center of the battle for marriage equality. The Governor proposed a bill, the General Assembly passed it, and now the State Senate will decide whether the state of New York will permit adults to join in permanent legal relationships, regardless of sexual orientation. Will you take two steps right now to help us make headway against discrimination?
First - We’ve got momentum! ADA is joining with the Courage Campaign, the Human Rights Campaign and other allies to call New York State Senators who are undecided on marriage equality. Five of them announced over the last two days that they would support the bill! That leaves us just one vote shy of the 32 we need. If the State Senate passes the bill, New York will become the largest state in the country to allow same-sex couples to wed.
Can you make calls to the following swing votes and ask them to support marriage equality?
Sen. Greg Ball (Putnam County) - (518) 455-3111
Sen. Joe Griffo (Utica) - (518) 455-3334
Sen. Mark Grisanti (Buffalo, Grand Island, Niagara Falls) - (518) 455-3240
Sen. Andrew Lanza (Staten Island) - (518) 455-3215
Sen. Jack Martins (Nassau County/Garden City) - (518) 455-3265
Second - can you send a contribution to help us continue fighting for social and economic justice all over the nation? We fought for marriage equality in the Nation’s Capitol, Maryland, and Maine -- to name a few. Help us continue the fight in New York and the rest of country. Your contribution of $15, $25, $50, $100 or more will help to fuel ADA’s efforts!
Thank you for your standing for equality!
