As a fellow Marylander, I need your help so that we can continue to call Maryland “the Free State.” Over the years, our state has battled discrimination in every form: by race, by gender, by age, and now we are fighting to defeat legal prejudice against our gay and lesbian neighbors.
Today, the Maryland General Assembly convenes for a special session. As an ADA board member, I ask you to join us, along with Equality Maryland and Marylanders for Marriage Equality in calling your State Delegates to tell them that you support the right of all loving couples to demonstrate their commitment through civil marriage.
It’s a quick phone call, and your voice could make a difference. Follow these simple steps:
1. Go to http://mdelect.net and search for your State Delegates’ contact information by entering your address.
2. Click the name under "State Delegates." (You probably have three delegates and should contact each one separately.)
3. Call them (toll-free) and share your views! (An example might be: “My name is _________. I live at (address, city, state, zip) and I'm a voter in your district who strongly supports civil marriage equality because all loving and committed couples should be able to marry, including gay and lesbian couples.")
Please add anything personal to the conversation or message.
4. Finally, please thank the Delegate or staff person for their time and/or relaying your message to the legislator. Be sure to ask for a response with their position on the issue!
These four steps will take less than 5 minutes. And as a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, I can tell you that telephone calls like these will have an enormous impact on this latest effort to win real equality in Maryland!
