You're invited to join us tomorrow for a free documentary film screening on the Virginia immigration struggle, followed by a question and answer session with the director, Eric Byler.
Awarded “Two Thumbs Up” by film critic Roger Ebert, the immigration-rights documentary “9500 Liberty” will receive its Capitol Hill debut on Wednesday, February 22, at noon as part of the Americans for Democratic Action Education Fund’s Congressional Briefing series.
“9500 Liberty” recounts the fierce battle over Arizona-style immigration laws enacted in the outer Washington suburb of Prince William County, VA. Best-selling author John Grisham says the film “makes it clear that when we, as a nation of immigrants, debate the immigration issue, we are defining our very identity as Americans.”
WHEN: Wednesday, February 22, Noon
WHERE: Rayburn House Office Building (Independence Avenue and South Capitol Street), Room 2456
The struggle for immigrant rights and comprehensive immigration reform are among the toughest in American political life. “9500 Liberty” shows a way forward for the immigrant-rights community: how a careful, concerted effort by immigrants and their supporters successfully overturned punitive legislation that in effect made “looking like an immigrant” a crime.
We hope to see you there!
