ADA Convention This Week!
The 63rd ADA Convention kicks off this Thursday with a pre-registration networking reception at the Exchequer Pub in the Chicago Loop from 7 to 9 pm. Convention highlights include film screenings, panel discussions, policy commission where all ADA members in attendance will set our agenda, and a keynote speech from Larry Cohen, President of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) you won’t want to miss. Have you RSVP'd to join us yet?
On Saturday, the Northeastern Illinois Chapter of ADA will specially honor local and national progressive champion Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) with the Eleanor Roosevelt award for Progressive Leadership. Get tickets here!
If you have not already registered for the ADA Convention, sign up today. Click here to register. If cannot attend, chip in a donation to help others attend.
Wisconsin and Beyond
Wisconsin used to be the stronghold of progressive thought, responsive and responsible government. However, last Tuesday’s recall election results show us that unlimited, secret spending on scare messages and hate speech can convince people to vote contrary to their own interests.
We were outspent 7 to 1, but we will not give up. We will not be silent. On Saturday, the ADA Convention will screen the film: We Are Wisconsin.
The convention will also feature a luncheon keynote address in which CWA President Larry Cohen will present the union's "Building a Movement For Economic Justice & Democracy" campaign.
WFW -- American Made Independence Day!
Have you made your Fourth of July plans yet? Whether you’ll be cooking out on the grill, participating in a parade, or simply counting your blessings as an American, nothing celebrates American independence less than stocking up on a bunch of Independence Day supplies made in China by under-paid, exploited workers.
ADA and Working Families Win encourage you to make sure your party, picnic, or other holiday event is "Made in America." Sign up here to get more information on how you can have an American-made Independence Day.

● This week, the Senate is expected to begin consideration of the Farm Bill (S. 3240). The proposal includes a $4.5 billion cut over 10 years to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by reducing the ability of states to take part in the “Heat and Eat” program. If passed, an estimated 500,000 low-income households a year would lose this critical benefit. Call the Capitol switchboard toll free at 1-888-245-0215 and ask to be connected to your Senator. (Don’t know who your Senator is? Find out here!) Then urge your Member to support SNAP by co-sponsoring the Gillibrand SNAP amendment, which would restore the $4.5 billion cut to SNAP. Find out more!
