Standing with Walmart Workers

ADA stood up with Walmart workers, union members and other activists on Black Friday to pull off our nation’s largest strike against the world’s largest retailer.   Together, we called for fair pay, benefits, and safer working conditions.  While we love a good deal, we don’t believe companies should value maximum profits over their workers’ needs.  Learn more about the plight of Walmart workers here.

ADA on Tax Fairness

On Saturday, December 8, at 10:30am at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark, ADA is hosting a Tax Fairness Town Hall Forum in Newark, Delaware.  The forum will focus on the current “fiscal cliff” negotiations in Congress; panelists will discuss how we can have an economy that works for everyone if we raise sufficient revenue by ensuring that wealthy Americans and corporations pay their fair share of taxes.

The moderator is Paul Baumbach, newly elected state representative for the 23rd Representative District.  Panelists include Jason Scott, CEO of Prestwick House and member of the American Sustainable Business Council; Marie Laberge, President of Delaware NOW (National Organization for Women) and Assistant Professor of Women and Gender Studies at the University of Delaware; and a representative from US Senator Coons’ office.

If you're wondering what all this talk about tax equity and the approaching "fiscal cliff" is about, check out these two articles:

  • Fighting Fiscal Phantoms by New York Times columnist Paul Krugman challenges the media's view of the "fiscal cliff" and highlights how organizations like "Fix the Debt" are using this scare to call for cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
  • Billionaire Warren Buffett does it again with his new OP-ED, A Minimum Tax for the Wealthy.  Buffett argues again why the very rich (like himself) should contribute their fair share and invest in America.
