Proud to be an American
We celebrated our patriotism and what it means to be an American last week. But you can continue the celebration today by reminding tax-dodging American corporations what it means to be proud Americans.
Remind American corporations what it means to be truly American: to invest in America, help reduce the deficit, invest in and educate our children, and keep jobs in the United States. Send this Letter to the Editor of your local paper. It’s quick and easy to send.
As we celebrated our nation's Independence Day, over 11 million undocumented immigrants were waiting for their chance to join in on the celebration. On June 27, the Senate passed an immigration reform bill by a 68-32 margin. This broad reform bill has many aims, most notably the creation of a 13-year “path to citizenship” for 11 million undocumented immigrants. However, this program cannot start until the implementation of border security measures, such as increasing the number of Border Patrol agents and building more fencing on the US-Mexico border. In addition, the Senate bill puts a focus on work skills, making it easier for skilled immigrants to gain citizenship and get jobs.
Now, all eyes are on the Republican-led House of Representatives, where the pathway provision is anathema to many House Republicans, so they promise not to bring the bill to the floor for debate despite its wide support in the Senate. Together, we need to continue to push for a true reform bill that will protect our workers and provide a path to citizenship.
