Today, marks the 48th Anniversary of one of the most successful and important government programs in history. In 1965, President Johnson signed the Medicare amendment of the Social Security Act to provide health insurance to people age 65 and older regardless of income or medical history. Before Medicare’s creation, only half of older adults had health insurance. Today, over 6.6 million people with Medicare have saved over $7 billion on prescription drugs as a result of the Affordable Care Act.
We must continue to expand and strengthen Medicare for all people. Let Congress know that this important program must continue to fortify. We urge you to be a part of a nationwide call-in day to increase awareness in Congress for HR 676 -- the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act. HR 676 would create a publicly financed, privately delivered health care system that uses the already existing Medicare program by expanding and improving it to all Americans. You can call the US Capitol Switchboard toll-free at (866) 220-0044, ask for your Representative’s office, and then ask them to sign as a co-sponsor of HR 676.
