Over the past 12 months 2.8 million people have lost their jobs.  Just today it was reported unemployment claims reached a 26 year high.

That's why it is imperative you contact your Senators and insist they support an emergency bridge loan to the Big 3 U.S. automakers. Click here to use ADA's activist tools to email your Senators or call 202-224-3121 and ask to speak to your Senators directly.

A collapse in Detroit could lead to the loss of more than 3 million jobs nationwide and millions of retirees could lose their health care and pensions.  "America is not built on Wall Street's credit default swaps and collateralized debt obligations.  Its wealth and culture are built on and built by middle class workers who construct actual products," said ADA Vice President United Steel Workers President Leo Gerard.

Several GOP Senators are threatening to filibuster the bill.  They argue that auto workers should be required to give up pay and benefits before any government assistance is provided to make the Big 3 more competitive with foreign manufacturers who pay their employees less.

ADA National Director Amy Isaacs said: "It is outrageous that a small group of Republican Senators, such as Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, whose state has one of the highest poverty rates in the country, are celebrating low wages.  When the economy is in a shambles largely because average working people, whose wages have been stagnant for years, can no longer afford to buy things, the solution is not to make their lives even harder."
