Tell your Senators to Pass SCHIP
Great news! The House just passed an improved State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Now the action heads to the Senate.
From time to time, there are unique moments of opportunity for everyone involved in making public policy to do the right thing. A bill to expand SCHIP is precisely one of those moments. It is also the first step toward guaranteed health care for all.
- Providing good health care for children prevents and reduces health care costs in their later life.
- Getting the health care they need, makes kids achieve better in school.
- Due to the bad economy, the number of uninsured is expected to grow.
- Keeping children healthy keeps their parents at work.
The SCHIP program is designed to cover all eligible children with health insurance paid for by an increase in the cigarette tax. Who among us would oppose health care for children?
This bill will cover 11 million children, legal immigrants and pregnant women. When this good bill is passed by Congress, President Barack Obama has pledged to sign it. SCHIP will provide health care to America's neediest children and it is signal of hope that demonstrates that America cares about our children.
ADAction: Contact your Senators at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to vote for SCHIP because choosing children's health care is doing the right thing, period. You may also send your lawmaker an email using ADA's activist system, however, many new Members of Congress have yet to establish webpages and email. If that is the case, call them at 202-224-3121.
