Act Now to Pass the Federal Budget

Both the House and Senate have passed draft versions of the 2010 budget that contain President Obama's new vision for America: a renewed economy, job creation, affordable health care, education and clean energy.

But naysayers led by Newt Gingrich, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have vowed to gut Obama's budget, and are doing everything they can to return us to the failed economic policies that they brought us in the past.

We can't let them and the corporate lobbyists who have been running the show destroy this budget!  Before Congress votes on the final, joint version, your Member of Congress, and your Senators, need to hear from you, too.

Call toll-free 888-245-0215.  You will hear a short message then be connected to the Capitol Switchboard.  Ask to be connected to your Representative's or Senators' offices.  When you reach them, tell them that you want them  to support President Obama's budget when it comes to the floor for a vote.

Hate Crimes

The Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act, also known as the Matthew Shepard Act, will likely be voted on in the House on Wednesday.  The law gives the Justice Department the power to investigate and prosecute bias-motivated violence where the perpetrator has selected the victim because of the person's actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.  ADA strongly supports the law.  Call the Capitol at 202-224-3121 and tell your lawmakers to pass the Matthew Shepard Act.

Working Families Win Director Responds to Gingrich Attack on Workers

Don Kusler, Director of ADA's Working Families Win project, responded to an attack on the Employee Free Choice Act, saying, "Newt Gingrich once peddled a "Contract with America" but he now wants to keep hard working Americans from getting meaningful contracts with their employers.  Despite the fact that Gingrich's political ideas have been soundly repudiated by American voters, he continues to peddle the same tired anti-worker rhetoric and insists on packaging it in a web of error and misconception."  Read more here.
