This time, Maine is going to be number one in the nation's political top ten. That's right - because of the effort to overturn your state law on marriage equality, the lead story on the TV networks and on newspapers all across the nation will either be
"Marriage Equality affirmed in Maine"
"Setback to civil rights as voters overturn marriage equality law"
It's up to you. And to your neighbors, friends and family in the Pine Tree State. You will decide the next big step in the battle for equality.
I know that as a fellow supporter of Americans for Democratic Action you believe in the protection of civil rights. Discrimination is wrong whether it is based on race, gender, or sexual orientation. Proposition 1 is a threat - and challenges us to stand up for basic rights.
The latest polls project that the referendum will fail 51 to 47% tomorrow; but as you and I know, polls don't vote - people do.
If you support marriage equality, there are two things that you can do to help. First, vote NO on 1 tomorrow. Second, you can support ADA and their efforts to fight these attacks by clicking here. Your contribution of $5 or more will help protect civil rights in Maine and all over the nation.
Thank you for your time. I know which headline I hope to see on Wednesday. I hope that you will be watching with me and with ADA members all over the nation. We are counting on you.
