ADA's 2009 Voting Record Released!

ADA has produced the annual vote analysis since 1947, and the new analysis of the 111th Congress confirms that Washington is more divided than ever along liberal - conservative lines.  See for yourself who the 98 House Democrats are that received a 100% rating, the 75 Republicans that scored 0%, the most liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats.

The ADA voting record is used by political scientists, reporters and other political analysts to determine trends and conduct other analysis throughout the year.  See how it's used to discuss Virginia politics or Maine's Senators

Political Analysis:  2009 Mirrors 1961.  Check out our blog on the Huffington Post!

The First Step on Wall Street Reform

The first of many showdowns on financial reform is scheduled today, as the Republican (*ahem, Wall Street puppets*), try to stop the Senate from taking acting to regulate the dangerous gambling that was seen with Goldman Sachs. Among other reforms, the proposed legislation would strengthen consumer financial protections and establish an industry-financed fund for failing firms, meant to prevent future taxpayer bailouts. The Senate vote is scheduled for 5 p.m. today!

  • In Memoriam: The progressive movement lost two great leaders within four days last week, as Dorothy Height and Benjamin Hooks passed away. Both were pillars in the struggle for civil rights for decades, the central moral issue on the liberal agenda.
  • Sanford Gottlieb's book "Red to Blue" examines the movement toward a Democratic majority in American politics.  He'll be discussing it at Busboys and Poets in D.C. this Thursday night at 7 p.m. and ADA is hosting.
  • Immigrant rights advocates aren't taking Arizona's oppressive new law that threatens civil liberties lying down. Opponents include the Mayor of Phoenix and Arizona Members of Congress Grijalva and Pastor.  Even Sen. McCain's daughter denounced the legislation.
