The Continuous Battle on Extended Unemployment

A critical amendment to extend resources to assist unemployed workers fell short of passing last Thursday.  Focus has been shifted to Maine's Senators Snowe and Collins in order to obtain the super majority necessary to end a filibuster.  Constituents from Maine are encouraged to call (Snowe 800.432-1599 / Collins 202.224.2523) and express support for the amendment, while those residing outside of Maine are encouraged to reach out to Maine residents whom them may know to encourage them to contact their Senators.

Young Adults Struggle

This economy has been particularly detrimental to young Americans seeking employment.  A recent report shows that more and more college grads are moving back in with their parents after school.  We need solutions and strategies to address this crisis.  Use ADA's online action tools to urge your Representatives to co-sponsor H.Res.1396 to help create greater economic opportunities for young people by increasing allocations for the AmeriCorps, Job Corps and Peace Corps programs.

Prop 8 Trail Coming to an End

A decision is near on the heated California Prop 8 trail.  The trial questions the legality of last year's Proposition 8, the ballot question that eliminated the rights of gay and lesbian couples to marry, has been restricted from televised coverage.  The landmark case is now in the hands of Judge Vaughn Walker, but regardless of the ruling, it's important to remember the important steps that we have taken forward in DC, Iowa and Hawaii.  In other words, progress marches on.
