ADA President, Rep. Lynn Woolsey, Introduces Public Option Bill

Last Wednesday, Rep. Lynn Woolsey, along with 128 co-sponsors, introduced H.R. 5808, to amend the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to include the public health insurance option.

The Congressional Budget Office's analysis of the bill, H.R. 5808, found it would reduce federal budget deficits by $68 billion from 2014 to 2020.  So it will save money and promote public health!  SIGN THE PETITION to support H.R. 5808 and the public option!

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau -- ADA Supports Elizabeth Warren

President Obama and Congressional Democrats recently passed an unprecedented, sweeping financial reform bill that seeks to reign in some of the consumer abuses practiced by the financial industry and reduce the risk of future collapse.  The centerpiece of the reform, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will only be effective if it's headed by a real reformer.  That's why ADA supports Elizabeth Warren to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Finally!  Extended Benefits for the Unemployed

Last Thursday, Congress passed the extension of unemployment benefits that had been stalled in the Senate and President Obama signed the bill into law.  Now, Unemployment Insurance (UI) will be extended through November.  For more information about the benefits of the new law, click here.

  • On Tuesday, July 20th, the New York Times ran an Op-Ed piece by John McWhorter titled "The Dreaded P-Word," in which he argues that the term "progressive" should be applied to conservatives.  ADA's National Director, Michael J. Wilson, rebukes this argument in a letter to the editor printed in today's New York Times.
