Consumer Financial Protection Bureau -- ADA Supports Elizabeth Warren
President Obama and Congressional Democrats recently passed an unprecedented, sweeping financial reform bill that seeks to reign in some of the consumer abuses practiced by the financial industry and reduce the risk of future collapse. The centerpiece of the reform, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will only be effective if it's headed by a real reformer. That's why ADA supports Elizabeth Warren to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

- On Tuesday, July 20th, the New York Times ran an Op-Ed piece by John McWhorter titled "The Dreaded P-Word," in which he argues that the term "progressive" should be applied to conservatives. ADA's National Director, Michael J. Wilson, rebukes this argument in a letter to the editor printed in today's New York Times.
- ADA staff spent the weekend in Las Vegas for the 5th Annual Netroots Nation Conference, a gathering of progressive leaders, bloggers and organizations. Speakers and highlights included Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Senator Harry Reid, and Senator Al Franken. See more photos here.
