2010 Midterm Elections
The 2010 Midterm election is of imminent importance with 36 gubernatorial races, 36 Senate races and the entire House of Representatives for election. ADA activists have been active in supporting liberal candidates around the country and ADA’s PAC has endorsed progressive candidates in 15 states.
What Happens Next?
No matter what happens on Election Day, the 111th Congress isn't finished. Ending the Bush tax cuts, extending unemployment benefits, completing work on the appropriations bills and confirming federal judges are the unfinished work which awaits them after the election. Also, we would like to see passage of pay equity legislation and the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) agreement.
In addition, the ADA Ed Fund is planning a post election event at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. It will analyze the 2010 elections, and be a strategy session for 2011 and beyond. More details.
- Led by our Southern California Chapter, ADA has sent a letter to President Obama on the critical issues of home foreclosures signed by ADA President Lynn Woolsey and ADA National Director Michael J. Wilson.
- ADA National Director published a new blog on the Huffington Post, citing the 1934 election as a model for the 2010 mid-term election.
- Anne Shull, the widow of long time ADA National Director Leon Shull, passed away early this morning. A political activist who, for a time, also worked at ADA, she remained an involved and committed liberal to the end. Contributions in her memory may be made to Americans for Democratic Action.
