Will yesterday's Super Bowl be the last game until..... ?

With the owners planning on sabotaging the collective bargaining process by locking out the players (and everyone else), who knows?  Watch this ad that CBS refused to air from the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA).  With each team employing an average of 3,700 people, we'd hope that Commissioner Goodell will do everything within his power to ensure that the great sense of sportsmanship that is embodied by the National Football League is also evident at the bargaining table.  Read our letter to Commissioner Goodell here.

Maryland Marriage Equality Public Hearings Start Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, the Maryland State House will begin a public hearing on Senate Bill 116, the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act.  This bill would grant equal rights and the protections of marriage to same-sex couples in the state of Maryland.  ADA will submit testimory in favor of the bill.

A New Start

President Obama signed the ratification documents for a new neclear arms treaty with Russia last week, clearing the way for a new START with Russia.  The new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) is designed to drastically decrease the stockpile of strategic nuclear weapons in both countries from 2,200 to 1,550 warheads and 700 launchers.

  • The marriage equality law in Iowa is under attack.  Watch this inspiring video from a 19 year old college student with two mothers at the Iowa State House of Representatives public hearing.
  • A new Republican-sponsored abortion bill in the House would allow hospitals to let women die instead of having a medically necessary abortion.  Is this what Republicans mean by repealing health care?
  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported last week that official unemployment rate fell to 9.0 percent and the real unemployment rate, known as the U6, fell to 16.1 percent.  It is a positive sign, but there is no doubt that we are still far from solving the unemployment crisis.
