I am writing this to you from Madison, Wisconsin and asking you to help me make a difference.
Seven years ago, former U.S. Representative and ADA President Jim Jontz reached out to me to help create a presence here for ADA. They knew that as a swing state, an electoral battleground and as laboratory for public policy, we needed boots on the ground across Wisconsin.
They predicted correctly.
Over the past three weeks, we've seen an assault on our most fundamental rights right here in my own backyard. Conservatives are fighting to take away our voice in the workplace. Governor Walker has locked citizens out of our state Capitol. The Koch Brothers are pushing legislation to stop 1 in 4 voters -- students, renters and the poorest in society -- from casting a ballot on election day.
This fight is becoming a test case for the rest of the country: If they can do it here, they can do it anywhere.
We are at a turning point, and we need your help. Your contribution to ADA will help them maintain a presence in Wisconsin, and in other hot spots across the country where we most need to protect and defend people's rights.
I've been to the rallies at the Capitol every day, but this is a long term battle, and to sustain the fight, it will take financial resources.
I'm proud to be working with ADA over the past five years as a national board member, and to continue our advocacy across the states. I hope you will join me in fighting for -- and funding --our continued battle to protect people's rights.
