Tell No on 64 Spokeswoman Laura Chapin:
Be honest and accurate about Amendment 64

Now that our campaign to end marijuana prohibition in the state of Colorado is taking off, the lies are starting here. Exhibit #1: Laura Chapin, spokeswoman for the No on 64 campaign. In response to the unveiling of our new billboard yesterday, Ms. Chapin said in the Denver Post: “Marijuana use has increased among teens in Colorado, and Amendment 64 would only accelerate that increase."

Sorry, Ms. Chapin. That is simply not true. In fact, if she took the time to visit the url on the billboard — www.RegulationWorks.org — she would see that marijuana use among teens has dropped significantly since Colorado enacted regulations to control the sale of medical marijuana.

To win in November, we've got to stand up and challenge every single lie like this one. So we need you to take action right now. Use the form below to send a pre-written email to No on 64 spokeswoman Laura Chapin, asking her to be honest and accurate in her statements over the coming months.

Dear Ms. Chapin,

I was troubled by your statements to the Denver Post regarding the regulation of marijuana like alcohol. You made a number of assertions that just don't seem to be backed up by the facts. In particular, you said, "Marijuana use has increased among teens in Colorado, and Amendment 64 would only accelerate that increase."

I am not sure what statistics you are using, but the most recent -- and most reliable -- data was released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control just a couple weeks ago. In the CDC survey, it was reported that past-month marijuana use by Colorado high school students has DECREASED since our state and its localities began regulating medical marijuana in 2009. While marijuana use is on the rise nationally, it is not on the rise in Colorado. This information and more is available at www.RegulationWorks.org. I encourage you to check it out.

I realize you have only recently begun to take on an active role in the marijuana debate, so I appreciate the possibility that you were not aware of these facts prior to making those statements. If that was the case, I hope you will refrain from making similar statements now that this information has been brought to your attention.

Voters deserve to hear both sides of the issue. But more importantly, they deserve to hear the truth. While you and I might not share the same position on Amendment 64, I hope you will agree with me that the debate surrounding it should be based on the facts.

Laura Chapin
