Send an email about marijuana to your Colorado friends and family — especially your older relatives!

The easiest and most effective way to get people to reconsider their current beliefs about Amendment 64 is through a personal message from a friend or family member.

If you only do one thing to help the Amendment 64 campaign this year, we hope you will send the email below to as many friends and relatives as possible. It is especially important that you send it to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. As you will see, it is not an aggressive email telling them how to think about marijuana; it is simply asking them to think about marijuana. Feel free to modify it as you like before sending it.

As you know, we are now in the heart of the election season. I wanted to shoot you a quick email about an initiative on the ballot in Colorado that's really important to me. I support it, and I really hope you will, too.

Amendment 64 would regulate marijuana like alcohol. Right now, most of the sales of non-medical marijuana in Colorado take place in an underground market, controlled by gangs and cartels. I think these sales should be conducted by legitimate Colorado businesses instead, so that we can create good jobs and generate tax revenue to rebuild our crumbling public schools, maintain our public parks, and fund other community needs. In fact, the first $40 million generated by a new excise tax established by Amendment 64 would be directed to public school construction.

I also believe our communities would be safer if police focused on serious crimes, rather than arresting and prosecuting 10,000 Coloradans per year for choosing to use a product that's less harmful than alcohol.

Like alcohol prohibition, marijuana prohibition is ineffective and wasteful, and it has caused far more problems than it has solved. That's why Amendment 64 has been endorsed by current and former elected officials on both sides of the aisle, the NAACP, more than 300 Colorado physicians, and 130 professors.
