What does food safety have to do with a deer? Or a draft horse? Or a dog? A lot.
Today, NSAC is releasing our first round of analysis on the proposed Food Safety Modernization Act regulations for farmers and advocates on our FSMA information page. This is only part of the story: there’s more to come later this week and for the rest of July.
We’re finalizing analysis on a host of other issues that will be ready in the next two weeks, including on how FSMA may impact water use on the farm, manure and compost, recordkeeping requirements, food hubs and direct marketing, and costs to farmers and processors to comply with the new rules.
Read this information now and begin preparing to submit comments before the September 16 deadline!
Everyone deserves a safe food supply – but there are a number of issues with the rules that could cause serious problems for farmers and on-farm processors. And it’s critical that everyone – farmers, processors, advocates, and consumers – understand what’s problematic, what’s at stake, and what to do about it.
