How did your Representative vote on health reform?

    Find out and contact them.

The House of Representatives passed the Senate health reform legislation and a package of improvements, the first time in our country's history that a comprehensive health care bill has passed both houses of Congress. The vote was 219-212.

How did your Representative vote on the historic day? Did they side with you for quality, affordable health care for all? Or did they side with the insurance companies to deny you health reform. Find out:

    To my Senators and Representative:

(CC: President Obama, Majority Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi)

I voted for change in 2008. And since then, I’ve made phone calls and knocked on doors, held meetings and more. I can't wait for that change anymore.

The millions of people like me who can’t afford our health care can’t wait; the 45,000 people who die every year because they don’t have insurance can’t wait; the families filing for bankruptcy because of medical bills can’t wait; the state budgets crushed by health care costs can’t wait. All the changes we need can’t wait – good jobs, protecting the environmental, worker’s rights, immigration and reining in Wall Street. I'm fed up. I want the change I voted for and I want it now! Because if the insurance companies and big corporations win, I lose.

That change starts with getting health insurance reform done and getting it done right. To finish the job and deliver a health reform bill that meets the needs of families like mine, I urge that you to make sure the final health care bill resolves a number of critical outstanding issues. These issues may be summarized under two goals:

    1. Make GOOD health care affordable
Low and middle income families must be able to afford health insurance, and employers must be asked to provide good health coverage for their employees so health care is affordable at work. Health care should not be paid for with a tax on middle class health benefits.

    2. Hold insurance companies accountable
If the insurance companies win, I lose. Insurance companies must be held accountable with strong regulations and consumer protections, and we must be given the choice of a national public health insurance option available on day one across the United States.

I need you to stand up to the corporate lobbyists and the Republicans who do nothing but say “no” to the President’s agenda. I need you to deliver the change I voted for. I need you to get it done, and get it done right.

    Sincerely,

    You!

Write a letter to your Senators

Where do your Senators stand on a public healthcare option?

Do your Senators stand with us for a public healthcare option? And what kind of public healthcare option do they support?

With your help, we can get answers to these questions, on the record so we can hold them accountable.

Fill out the information below to send an email to your Senators, asking them these questions and requesting a written response.

    Letter Writing Tips

Write a short note in your own words on why you support a public healthcare option:

    • A public healthcare option is crucial to controlling costs, the heart of the healthcare crisis.
    • A public healthcare option will keep private insurance honest.

Then ask your Senators these four questions:

    • Do you support a public healthcare option as part of reform?
    • Do you support a public healthcare option that is ready on day one?
    • Do you support a public healthcare option that is national, available everywhere, and accountable to our government?
    • Do you support a public healthcare option that has the clout to establish rates with providers and big drug companies?

Conclude by reminding your Senators that you are a constituent, and you expect answers to these questions in writing, via email.
