In recent years, we have seen a steady decline in federal funding for this devastating disease and this trend must stop now. Alzheimer’s is not only a devastating disease that affects millions of Americans, but if we don't find a cure soon, the treatment and care for this disease alone could bankrupt the entire health care system. There are 36 million Alzheimer’s patients worldwide, 6 million in this country alone, and as baby boomers are aging, this amount is going to double every 10-20 years. Most people don't realize this, but we will spend $2 trillion over the next decade on Alzheimer's care alone -- more than wiping out Medicare and Medicaid programs. I support Cure Alzheimer’s Fund because they are the only organization with a real roadmap to a cure, but they can’t do it alone. By investing $5 billion per year on research over 10 years, Cure Alzheimer’s Fund can find a cure. There is no question that this investment is worth making. I strongly urge you to support a national commitment to increase research funding and end Alzheimer’s disease by 2020.
