PPI RELEASES PROPOSALS, SPONSORS FORUM ON HOW TO SPUR ECONOMIC GROWTH THROUGH INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Progressive Policy Institute this week released two policy proposals to revive the American economy through smart investment in infrastructure:
A Smart Way to Finance High-Speed Rail: Restructuring the Highway Trust Fund into a Results-Driven Transportation Fund by PPI Fellow Mark Reutter, offers an innovative new way to pay for a high-speed rail;
A National Infrastructure Bank: A Road-Guide to the Destination by renowned infrastructure expert Everett Ehrlich, offers guidelines for how an infrastructure bank should operate.
PPI is also co-hosting the Second Annual North American Strategic Infrastructure Conference, this week at the Washington Hilton at 1919 Connecticut Avenue.
Friday morning will feature two panels:
The first, "Retooling the American Economy for Jobs, Innovation, and Competitiveness," will
will feature Jason Furman, deputy director of the White House National Economic Council, New York Times Columnist Tom Friedman, LIUNA Advisor to the General President Roderick Bennett and BrightSource Energy CEO John Woolard. Wall Street Journal Economics Editor David Wessel will moderate. This panel runs from 9 - 10:30 a.m.
The second, "Financing Future Growth: How Do We Pay For New Projects?" will feature Representative Rosa DeLauro, (D-Conn.); Leo Hindery Jr., Managing Partner, InterMedia Partners VII; Chris Bertram, Assistant Secretary for Budget and Programs and Chief Financial Officer, Department of Transportation; and Ev Ehrlich, President, ESC Company; and more. This panel runs from 10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
