Take a Stand!

Climate Change & Inequality

Inequality and climate change are the twin moral crises of our time. Both hit low- and moderate-income communities of color especially hard.

That’s why we’re fighting for bold, transformational change at the scale of the crisis, not the inadequate baby steps that politicians and corporations like to brag about.

Our campaigns include:

  • Redirect Wall Street’s fossil fuel investments into clean energy  – we’re pushing banks like Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo and large institution funds to stop financing climate destruction. We’re very proud of our recent victory to #DivestNY, along with our allies: the nearly $200 billion NYC pension funds will divest about $5 billion of public money money from fossil fuels corporations.  We want to de-fund the greedy, climate-destroying corporations like Exxon and end financing for projects like Dakota Access and KeystoneXL.
  • Slash New York City’s climate pollution and create good jobs – the top source of NYC’s massive climate pollution footprint is energy use in large buildings.  Along with allies at the Climate Works for All coalition, we’re pushing the City Council to pass legislation to require the city’s deep-pocketed real estate industry upgrade dirty, polluting buildings like Trump Tower to modern energy efficiency standards, creating thousands of good, union jobs for our communities while slashing climate pollution.

  • Stop all fracking infrastructure projects across NYS and move to 100% renewable energy – Governor Cuomo talks a big game on climate change, but New York is falling behind.  Along with our allies, we’re pushing the Governor to rapidly take New York to 100% renewable energy, while stopping all fracking infrastructure projects, such as the proposed Williams Pipeline in the NYC harbor.

  • Create good jobs in communities of color - As part of the NYRenews coalition, we’re pushing NYS Governor Cuomo to make corporate polluters pay for the pollution they currently dump into our air for free, and invest the funds into renewable energy and energy efficiency development that maximizes good, union jobs in communities of color.
