Support Sherrod Brown's Strengthening Social Security Act

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), just announced that next month he will be introducing Social Security expansion legislation when the new Congress convenes in 2015.

Brown will reintroduce the Strengthening Social Security Act – championed by U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) who will retire at the end of the month. The bill would extend the solvency of the Social Security Trust Fund, which nearly two in three Americans rely on for at least half of their income in old age.

“I could not be more pleased that Senator Brown has decided to champion this legislation in the next Congress. Senator Brown’s commitment to Social Security is unrivaled, and seniors should be thrilled to have an ally like Senator Brown on their side,” said Harkin. “Social Security is the most successful government program in our nation’s history and this legislation will make it even stronger for generations to come.” Now is the time to build support for Senator Brown’s bill and to ask every member of the U.S. Senate to sign-on as a co-sponsor.

With incoming Republican majorities in both bodies of Congress, 2015 is going to be a fight. And Social Security Works refuses to take steps backwards. We must stay on offense and demand that all members of Congress stand with the American people and stand with Senator Brown to expand Social Security. We need a strong show of support to ensure that when Senator Brown introduces the bill in January, he has more co-sponsors than Senator Harkin's bill had last year.
