We are united behind Social Security

Make no mistake, the Congressional majority’s strategy for 2015 is to threaten millions of Americans in order to ram through deeply unpopular cuts to our Social Security system. This cynical divide-and-conquer strategy continues in the form of a hearing in the House of Representatives. They are putting into action their plan to cut Social Security disability insurance for 11 million Americans, including more than 1 million veterans and 3 million children starting in 2016.

Since the first day of the 114th Congress, we’ve seen House and Senate Republicans in lock step trying to pit Social Security recipients against each other. They think that by pitting young against old and retirees against disabled workers, they can force cuts to Social Security through their phony, manufactured crisis. We know that attempts to divide the Social Security system are nothing more than attempts to take the system apart brick by brick.
