Social Security week on Talk Poverty Radio

Our friends at Talk Poverty Radio devoted their full episode this week to celebrating Social Security’s birthday. Their hosts and guests elegantly summarize the strategy behind the attacks on the Social Security Administration that have led to office closings, fully explain the retirement income crisis, and the show kicks off with Social Security Works’ Alex Lawson to talk about the next front in the battle to protect our earned benefits.

On the first day that Congress was in session this year, the new Republican majority passed rules that would make a routine transfer between Social Security’s trust funds more difficult. Make no mistake: they are fearmongering and demagoguing to create a crisis and use it as an excuse to cut benefits, just like they did with the debt ceiling.

We need to tell Congress: Social Security is ONE system and should be expanded--not cut!
