Protect Texas' Eastham Unit Prisoners from Lead and Copper in Water

The water at the Texas Eastham Unit has been confirmed to contain high levels of copper and lead.

Activist Keith “Malik” Washington, a prisoner at the Eastham Unit, has reported that the water at Eastham has “a strong sulfur-like smell and a very bad offensive taste which leaves behind a gritty residue in your mouth.”

Washington also says that prison guards have confirmed that the water is contaminated and that they themselves do not drink it. The prison administrators at the Eastham Unit have provided an alternative water source for their prison guards, yet continue to force their prisoners to drink water contaminated with lead and copper.

Sign this petition to the U.S. Department of Justice:

We request an immediate investigation into what appears to be gross negligence and deliberate indifference on the part of Eastham Unit prison administration. We also call for the Centers for Disease Control to test and investigate the water supply at the Eastham Unit.
