Blue Shield was about to raise health insurance rates by up to 86% in California until public pressure forced the company to retreat. Other companies are going ahead with their unjustified hikes and Blue Shield plans to increase rates again next January. This will continue until there is real insurance reform.
We want to stop any health insurance company from raising rates without getting the approval of the elected insurance commissioner first. AB 52 gives the insurance commissioner the power to say no to excessive rate hikes.
