To change the face of our U.S. Congress, we need to fill it with new ocean champions. Men and women who are committed to ocean health and who have proven they can get results. Today, we get one step closer by proudly endorsing state Senator Alan Lowenthal to represent California’s 47th Congressional District. Lowenthal has won the California Coastal Hero award for his work at the state level, and now he’s ready to do the same in the U.S. Congress.
Lowenthal has proven that he can create jobs while simultaneously improving coastal air and water quality. As a state Senator, he played a leading role is cleaning up the Port of Long Beach by promoting new infrastructure and clean technologies and by passing laws to remove pollutants from the Port. These innovations have created new jobs, improved transportation efficiency and significantly improved air quality in the Long Beach area. Lowenthal has also worked to address marine debris by holding the plastics industry accountable for its impact on Port garbage, and has led efforts to clean up the Los Angeles River by improving stormwater management.
Lowenthal has also been known for his ability to bring together members of both parties to solve problems for his constituents. He’ll bring this bipartisan approach to the U.S. Congress, where he’ll be able to do even more to help California’s 47th District and coastal water quality all over the U.S.
"I'm proud to have the endorsement of Ocean Champions," said Senator Lowenthal. "They are critical partners in working to clean up our water, air, and port while still creating jobs. They understand that without a healthy environment and communities, there can't be a healthy economy."
P.S. Help us clean up ports and coastal areas all over our nation by electing champions like Alan Lowenthal. Contribute to Ocean Champions today!
