Ocean Champions: Political Champions for Ocean Conservation

Dear Friend,

Who in Congress is best able to see the potential for harnessing clean energy to address the twin carbon problems of ocean acidification and climate change?  How about a former wind power engineer, Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-CA)!

Since he beat Ocean Enemy Richard Pombo in 2006, Congressman McNerney has been a true ocean champion.  He has defended the National Ocean Policy and consistently supported important fishery conservation programs.  He has voted to protect habitat, coastal water quality and threatened marine animals.  His biggest contribution, however, has been his strong leadership on clean energy, which continued with his recent introduction of the GREEN Act.

The GREEN Act will prepare today’s workers for jobs in the growing clean energy sector, by allocating competitive grant funding for clean energy career and technical training programs.  This will help expand clean energy production, addressing ocean acidification and climate change while ensuring that U.S. workers and our economy benefit from this growth.

For his leadership on clean energy and his consistently strong ocean conservation voting record, Ocean Champions is pleased to provide this early endorsement for Congressman McNerney.

Congressman McNerney responded, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Ocean Champions.  As the only renewable energy expert in Congress, I am committed to working towards a clean energy future and addressing climate change.”
