WEA Jump Start is a four-day comprehensive seminar designed to provide National Board candidates with important information about the certification process, time to examine component and Assessment Center requirements, the opportunity to plan how to meet requirements, and time to collaborate, gather resources and information needed to pursue certification.

Who should attend? Seminar seats will be given only to those candidates who are officially registered with NBPTS. You may register with NBPTS here. You will be entering your NBPTS candidate ID number in the registration information below.

The WEA offers needs-based scholarships for Jump Start. Click here to apply for a needs-based scholarship. If you are applying for a needs-based scholarship, select the "District or Association paying for registration fee" option, and note in the comment box that you are applying for the needs-based scholarships. We are unable to issue partial refunds to those who receive a scholarship award but have already paid with a credit card.

It will take more time than you think to complete this task—don’t wait until the day before Jump Start!

National Board Jump Start WEA registration fees include breakfast, lunch, beverages and snacks each day, training fees, clock hours, and materials. Up to 26 Clock Hours are available for the National Board Jump Starts. All participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging.

WEA Membership

  • You will need your WEA membership ID if you wish to register at the member price. If you are having difficulty locating your WEA membership card, you may continue to register without it and we will find it for you.
  • If you are not a WEA member and register at the member price, you will be moved to a waitlist and your ticket cost will be refunded until space opens up for your non-member price attendance.

You must read the NBPTS Guidelines for Ethical Candidate Support policy as you will be asked during registration to verify that you have read and will follow the guidelines. Click here to read the policy.

Please note that the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is now completing the roll-out of their revised certification process.

  • Component 4 instructions are available in field test version only.
  • For CTE candidates, Components 2 and 3 are also field test directions.

Important note for World Language Other than English (WLOE) candidates: The National Board recently announced changes to eligibility requirements for World Language candidates. Please see the Guide to National Board Certification for more information. NBPTS states that the Component 1 instructions for World Languages will be available in 2016-2017. Because WLOE Component 1 instructions are not yet available, we will be offering certificate-alike collaborative study time with a WLOE NBCT available during the Component 1 session at Jump Start.

Once you have completed the registration and payment process our online system will send you an email confirmation. Please print and save the email confirmation. If you have not received a confirmation within 12 hours of registration, please email Stephanie Mikos for information and further instructions.
