Lunell Haught, President |
April 29, 2021 Vol. 53, Issue 16b |
The 2021 legislative session ended with a bang on April 25, with stunning results for League issues. The capper was the adoption of the capital gains tax, for which many of you have advocated. But there were many issues for which we advocated that also passed. There was historic support for affordable housing, a shift of the tax structure with the working families tax exemption (combined with the capital gains tax), the restoration of voting rights to previously incarcerated people immediately upon release, climate change and environmental legislation, new funding for education and early learning, and more.
Although not everything we supported passed, we could not be happier with this session’s outcomes.
