In 2015 nearly all our support came directly from our Board Members
In January 2015, we launched People Demanding Action with direct support from our Board Members, and together we accomplished even more than we'd hoped. In May, we organized the Building an Inclusive Climate Movement Leadership Conference, and that sparked climate justice organizing throughout the south. In July and August, we hosted 80th Birthday Parties for Social Security in several states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New York, and North Carolina. In September, we were part of the organizing and IT team for Pope Francis' historic rally in Washington, D.C. Earlier this month, we earned international attention with our fight to change the name of J.E.B. Stuart High School to Justice Thurgood Marshall High School in Northern Virginia; and it looks like we may win! We have also been hosting weekly Stop the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) National Webinars since June.
We started with just 369 people, and now number over 65,000 supporters. Working with the Congressional Progressive Caucus, we helped draft and found sponsors to introduce House Resolution 540, the Zero Emissions, Renewable Energy, Green Jobs resolution. We held Round Table meetings on Capitoll Hill each month, bringing together members of Congress, grass roots leaders, and experts on a wide range of issues. And we're just getting started.
Our investment in advocacy and outreach tools will allow us to empower activists to directly contact Congressional Members to City Council members by email, phone and/or social media. In 2016, with your help, we will work to empower students (from high school through college) to advocate for equality, ending mass incarceration, tax Wall Street, free college and good paying jobs.
With your input, we will continue to implement our progressive southern strategy and empower seniors to protect and expand Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. You will see us organize with allies to fight back against corporate takeover of air traffic control and the US Postal Service. We'll continue the struggle against bad trade deals. We'll step up our work to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment on the Federal and state levels. We will renew our commitment to ending mass criminalization and to securing Statehood for Washington, D.C.
In 2015, financial support from five of our Board Members helped make all of these accomplishments possible. In 2016 we need you to invest in the work we started, and to help us expand it. I'm going to be realistic and honest; we need donations of $10, $20 or more to accomplish our objectives.
For $30.00, you can become an Annual Member and participate in our organizing, software and technical training for the entire year. You will also be able to attend local events. Invest $500 to become a lifetime member. Student memberships are also available at $10.
Working together, we can build on our amazing accomplishments and make 2016 a great year for progressives!
