Incarceration of the Homeless, Mentally Ill, Women and What To Do About It?

Dear Supporter,

We're beginning 2016 with new energy about ending the system of mass incarceration. Tonight we are joined by four People Demanding Action Board members who are working on legislation, community organizing and advocacy to end this problem.

Donald Whitehead if the former Executive Director of Coalition for the Homeless, Joel Segal is the former senior legislative staffer for Rep. John Conyers and drafted H Con Res 98, the Resolution to End Homelessness introduced by Rep. Alma Adams, North Carolina. Both Donald and Joel have been homeless and have managed homeless shelters. They will discuss their new initiative to Bring America Home and end the revolving door of incarceration for the homeless, mentally ill and the growing population of women.

Marc Carr is our newest Board member and he will discuss his Washington, DC Social Forum series which has a goal of reducing mass incarceration in DC by 50% in 5 years.

Robert Dawkins is host of Agitator Radio and he works both in North Carolina and nationally on creating empowered citizen review boards when there are police killings and also with families who have children murdered by police.

Over the past month we have seen more than 35,000 people sign petitions and Advocacy Alerts to fight privatization and social justice issues. We have seen how are new advocacy tools inspire people to take simple online action and will explore how we will take digital advocacy to the next level and identify partners at the local, state and national levels.

Please bring your ideas and join us.

Sincerely,

Andrea Miller
Executive Director
