The most practical solution to our economic woes is simply to "Put America Back to Work" but how to do it and how to fund it has been problematic. Tonight the team explores the concept, economic theories and realities of achieving Full Employment in the current economy. We are joined by Conor Williams, the secretary of the Transitional Jobs Collaborative in Milwaukee. Transitional Jobs (or government sponsored job creation and job training programs) brought America back from the Great Depression and these programs still work today.
Government job creation requires Federal funding to have a major impact on unemployment. Michael Darner, Executive Director of the Congressional Progressive Caucus talks about The People's Budget as a funding blueprint for job creation as well and an update on where we stand with the FY2017 budget. As Legislative Director for Rep. John Conyers, Michael worked on HR 1000 - Humphrey Hawkins Full Employment and Training Act and also worked with the Full Employment Caucus.
All Economic and Social Justice calls are recorded. You can listen to call recordings here.
People Demanding Action is a member of The People's Budget Campaign. We are planning Town Halls now in several cities letting communities know how The People's Budget would impact them. If you can "throw some money in the tip jar" to help fund travel costs it would be much appreciated.
